Class hours attendance calculator
Calculate the allowed absence in the same unit your institution records: periods or hours. Enter the course total, length of each meeting and time already missed.
Calculate by periods or hours
Use the same unit for the course total, each meeting and time already missed.
Worked example with 45 periods
For a 45-period course with an 80% target, the absence allowance is floor(45 × 20%) = 9 periods. If you have already missed 3, you have 6 periods left.
When each class meeting contains 3 periods, 6 remaining periods equal 2 full meetings. If a meeting has a different length, update that field rather than treating every meeting as equal.
Use the correct attendance unit
- Check whether your institution records meetings, periods or clock hours.
- Enter the full course total in that unit.
- Enter the same unit for each meeting and for time already missed.
- Confirm your target from the current course rules.
This conversion is useful when one timetable entry contains multiple periods. Your official attendance record should decide which unit to use.
Common questions
How do I calculate attendance by class hours?
Multiply the course hours by the allowed absence percentage, round down to whole periods, then subtract periods already missed.
Why round down the absence allowance?
A partial period usually cannot be used as a full absence without dropping below the target.
Can I mix hours and periods?
No. Use one consistent unit for all three inputs, based on the way your institution records attendance.
