Attendance recovery calculator

To get back to 75%, attend (0.75 × held − attended) ÷ 0.25 classes in a row, rounded up. If the semester ends first, what matters is how many of the remaining classes you attend. The calculators below answer both.

Can I still make it by the end of term?

Add how many classes of this subject are left this semester.

How many in a row to get back now?

Count every class held so far, including the ones you missed.

Two ways to look at recovery

Back on target as soon as possible

attend in a row = ⌈ (target × held − attended) ÷ (1 − target) ⌉

With 20 of 30 attended (66.66%) and a 75% target: (0.75 × 30 − 20) ÷ 0.25 = 10 classes, bringing you to 30 of 40 = 75%.

On target by the end of the semester

Often you only need to be above the line when attendance is checked, usually at the end of term. Then count the classes left:

attend at least = ⌈ target × (held + left) − attended ⌉

With 20 of 30 attended and 30 classes left: 0.75 × 60 − 20 = 25 of the 30, so you can still miss 5.

When it is too late

With 20 of 40 attended and 20 classes left, even perfect attendance ends at 40 of 60 = 66.66%. In that case speak to your teacher or department early: medical certificates, condonation or make-up classes are only possible before the deadline.

To avoid ending up here, keep a running count with the bunk calculator, or let the Classly app warn you before a subject drops below target.

Common questions

How many classes do I need to attend to get 75% attendance?

Attend (0.75 × held − attended) ÷ 0.25 classes in a row, rounded up. With 20 of 30 attended, that is 10 classes, which brings you to 30 of 40.

Can I still reach 75% by the end of the semester?

Only if (attended + classes left) ÷ (held + classes left) is at least 75%. If even attending every remaining class falls short, ask about medical leave, condonation or make-up classes.

Why does getting back up take so many classes?

Every class you attend also adds to the classes held. Near 75%, each attended class only raises your percentage a little, so recovering is much slower than falling.
